Lent: A Season of Sacrifice
**Lent: A Season of Sacrifice**
As I mentioned in my last post, Lent is a season of returning to God. To make a complete turn toward Him, we need to let go of many things to truly let God into our lives. This season prepares us for spiritual renewal. It’s important to understand that the sacrifices we make during Lent aren’t limited to just food. While fasting from food draws us closer to God, we should also sacrifice anything that takes us away from Him. Fasting is not merely about abstaining from food; it’s about denying ourselves anything that prevents us from knowing God more deeply.
This Lent, the Church is calling us to sacrifice everything that distances us from God. The term "Lent" signifies a time of serious sacrifice. Although sacrifices are valuable year-round, this period especially encourages us to deny ourselves certain things to foster a closer relationship with God. We don't fast for material possessions or earthly rewards; rather, we offer the sacrifice of fasting for the sake of our souls and in preparation for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
So, what is fasting? Fasting is the practice of voluntarily abstaining from food, drink, or certain activities for spiritual, religious, or health-related reasons. This season is about serious sacrifice; we should examine our lives to see what activities we might need to give up to grow spiritually and draw closer to God. Reflect on what you need to let go of to deepen your relationship with Him. Make that sacrifice today.
Consider your ambitions: if they pull you away from the Lord, they may need to be sacrificed during this season. We all aspire to be successful and make a lasting impact. However, our ambitions can sometimes become idols. If they distract us from God and are prioritized over faith, it's essential to evaluate them. As we read in Matthew 6:24, "No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money."
Take a moment to assess what you may be too devoted to over God. It's time to sacrifice those things at the feet of Jesus. If it is God’s will for you to succeed in your ambitions, submitting them to Him will enable Him to work more effectively in your life. Anything that overtakes your devotion to God needs to be sacrificed.
In conclusion, sacrificing certain things that lead us away from God helps us draw closer to Him. Lent is a time for letting go and seeking God more earnestly. It’s a season to dedicate 100% of your life to Him. God over everything. May God bless you.
I hope you find this insightful.
