FATHER, I HAVE SINNED AGAINST YOU
**FATHER, I HAVE SINNED AGAINST YOU**
Awareness leads to full recovery. What we are unaware of causes us suffering. When we are aware of something but refuse to take necessary action, our lives can become meaningless. We don’t come before the Father as perfect or without sin; we come before God like the prodigal son, acknowledging our sins and asking for mercy. Many of us are struggling, but recognizing our sins and returning to God for mercy is a challenge that many face.
God understands our imperfections as humans, which is why He patiently waits for us to return to Him, even when we go astray. Because He is aware of our flaws, God’s mercy is renewed every morning. Your past sins are not counted against you today when you come to Him for mercy.
**Lamentations 3:22** - "The unfailing love of the LORD never ends! By His mercies, we have been kept from complete destruction."
**Lamentations 3:23** - "Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each day."
Being a sinner does not mean that God hates us; He loves us. However, destruction lies ahead, which is why His mercy is there to protect us. His mercies begin anew each day so that we are not consumed by our mistakes. It is essential to acknowledge that you are a sinner in need of mercy every morning.
We often believe that our acts of sin are solely our own responsibility, which is why the prayer of confession in each daily Mass begins with, "I confess to Almighty God, and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, through my fault, through my most grievous fault;…” Since your acts of sin are your responsibility, so is your act of returning to God.
This season calls you to acknowledge your sins and seek mercy from God the Father. Consider the story of the prodigal son: he humbled himself and confessed his sin, expecting no special treatment. Do not view yourself as special in a state of sin. Approach the Father with full awareness that you are a sinner and ask for His mercy.
**Luke 15:18-19** – “I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.’”
Finally, the season of Lent invites you to ask for mercy, to withdraw from everything that distracts you from God, and to return to the Father, saying, “FATHER, I HAVE SINNED AGAINST YOU; HAVE MERCY ON ME.”
GOD BLESS YOU.
I hope this is insightful.
