HIS CROSS
**HIS CROSS**
We adore you, O Christ, and we praise you. Because by your holy cross, you have redeemed the world. Why the cross? Why endure the suffering of the Stations of the Cross? The pain is immense—a king sacrifices his kingdom to set you free and show you the way to salvation. What would have become of you without the cross? Why reject the cross? Imagine if Christ had rejected the cross. It is, after all, through his cross that the world is redeemed.
It pains my heart to see those who are meant to accept Him as King rejecting Him and forcing Him to bear the cross. It has been a long time since people began to reject Jesus. Even when He walked among His people, He was rejected and given a cross to bear. I believe this was for the fulfillment of His mission on earth because, without the cross, the work of salvation could not have been completed.
Let us delve deeper into our rejection of Him and how He continues to call on us to return to Him.
**His Rejection by His People**
Imagine that you have been working tirelessly to grant your people freedom, only to be arrested by the government. If your people then turn against you and refuse to speak on your behalf, it leads to your suffering—the cross you must bear. In the same way, think about how you have also rejected Jesus, through your choices and the way you live your life.
In John 19:15, we see, "But they shouted, 'Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him!' Pilate asked, 'Shall I crucify your king?' 'We have no king but Caesar,' the chief priests answered." Then, John 19:16-17 states, "Finally, Pilate handed him over to them to be crucified. So the soldiers took charge of Jesus. Carrying his own cross, he went out to the place of the Skull (which in Aramaic is called Golgotha)."
Your rejection led to Him carrying His cross. It is His cross, but it provides our salvation. Prepare you also to be rejected because you carry your cross to follow Christ. Jesus is no longer carrying the cross; instead, everyone carries their cross daily. Anyone who embraces this cross enjoys the salvation and freedom that He brings.
**His Calling and Prayer of Mercy for Us**
Jesus Christ understands that ignorance is often the reason we reject Him. Even as He faced crucifixion, He prayed for us all, saying, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." He recognized that it was through the free will of man that He was led to be crucified. However, we must understand that we need mercy to recognize our actions. A prayer for forgiveness comes with mercy. This is His call: "Come to me; I have forgiven your past. Let go of what has kept you away from me; I have forgiven you. Come to me, and let go of your sinful nature. I have forgiven you." He is calling us through His mercy.
Finally, this season of Lent invites us to meditate deeply on the cross of Christ and His call upon our lives to embrace his mercy. God bless you. Amen.
Hope this is insightful.
