KEEP GOOD/BLESSED ASSOCIATION: THEY CAN CHANGE YOU
*KEEP GOOD/BLESSED ASSOCIATION: THEY CAN CHANGE YOU*
We all desire change, personal development, and progress in life. Everyone wants to see their lives transform, to be productive, and to make a positive impact. Understanding the power of association is essential, as the people we surround ourselves with can either help us achieve our desired goals or hinder our progress.
Proverbs 13:20 states, “He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.”
The associations you choose to keep influence your growth. By selecting your associations wisely, you set yourself on autopilot for positive transformation. You don’t simply become like those you associate with; you grow to embody their traits and mindsets. This process of change may not be instantaneous; rather, it unfolds gradually. Surrounding yourself with positive and uplifting individuals can significantly influence your mindset, actions, and overall well-being. Good associations can inspire personal growth, provide support during challenging times, and help you become a better version of yourself.
Consider Abraham and Lot: Lot became a blessing because he was associated with Abraham. Lot thrived due to his relationship with Abraham, which brought him material wealth, divine protection, spiritual influence, and survival. Abraham's relationship with God does not only blessed him but also those around him.
You cannot maintain harmful associations and expect to achieve the best outcomes in your life. The people you surround yourself with can either influence you positively or negatively, as seen in Genesis 13:5: “Now Lot, who was moving about with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents.” Lot received blessings through his connection with Abraham; the key was in learning, unlearning, and relearning from that association.
Pay close attention to who you associate with. If someone in your circle is experiencing blessings in their life, seek to understand what they know that you don’t. Through his association with Abraham, Lot had access to God's blessings and ultimately became a blessing himself.
I admired an automobile workshop years ago and was encouraged to relearn my craft there. During my time there, I discovered the foundational principle of the automotive industry: Knowledge fuels success. The CEO emphasized that what you know keeps the workshop growing. From that moment on, I committed to continuous learning. By associating with the right people, I uncovered the secret to success, and with God’s help, we now have what that workshop has and trust Him for greater things.
Potiphar was blessed because of Joseph’s presence and actions. Imagine if you had someone like me around, and everything was working out for you; you would naturally want to nurture that association. That is precisely what happened with Potiphar, who experienced blessings because of Joseph.
Genesis 39:2 tells us, “The LORD was with Joseph, and he prospered. He lived in the house of his Egyptian master.” Genesis 39:3 continues, “When his master saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD gave him success in everything he did…”
Genesis 39:5 reveals, “From the time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, the LORD blessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph.” The blessings of the Lord extended over everything Potiphar had—both in his home and his fields—because he was associated with someone who knew the Lord: Joseph. Potiphar recognized Joseph's connection to God and the blessings evident in Joseph's life, leading him to intentionally build a relationship with him, even putting Joseph in charge of his household.
It’s vital to associate with those who know the Lord, as the blessings of God will be evident in their lives. After God, surrounding yourself with good associations that sharpen you and bring out the best in you is essential. As Proverbs 27:17 (NIV) states, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”
In conclusion, life is designed for you to know God, love Him, and serve Him. Achieving this can also be expressed through how you treat others. Reflect on the benefits that your associations bring to others. Think about it. God bless you.
