Parents Must Be Futuristic About Their Children — But More Importantly, Train Them in the Way of the Lord

As parents, it’s important to dream big for your children. Think ahead. Plan for their education, their careers, and their future success. But there’s something even more important than all of that: Training them in the way of the Lord.
It’s not enough to provide for a child physically, emotionally, or intellectually—their spiritual foundation will carry them through life, especially when all else fails.

I remember vividly how it was in our earlier years. Going to church, praying, and studying weren’t something I looked forward to. My brother and I would sometimes wash our clothes on Sunday mornings to avoid going to church. We thought it was a smart excuse—but our parents were consistent and firm. No matter what, they insisted we go to church.

At first, I would go, but not stay. Sometimes I’d sneak out or stay distracted. But over time—something began to change. The Spirit of God started ministering to us.  We weren’t being forced anymore. It became personal. That was the beginning of our faith journey. And it all started because our parents trained us in the way of the Lord, even when we resisted it.

Today, I look back and say: “Thank you, Lord, for how I was brought up.” That foundation is what helped me encounter God and build a relationship with Him for myself.

Proverbs 22:6 (NKJV):
“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”

Parents, don’t be discouraged when your children resist spiritual things. Don’t stop praying. Don’t stop teaching. Don’t stop leading by example. The seed you sow today may take time—but when it grows, it will bear fruit that lasts a lifetime.

Be futuristic. Plan for their greatness.
But above all, train them in the way of the Lord. That is the greatest gift you can give.
